ON September 11-16, 2024, Paul Mark B. Yu from Computer Communication Development Institute (CCDI) represented the Philippines at the recently held 47th World Skills competition in Lyon, France, competing in the IT Software Solutions for Business (ITSSB) category, where 25 countries competed including China, Korea, Hungary, Columbia, Philippines, and India. Yu’s path to this international stage started when he won the gold medal in the Philippine National Skills Competition 2023. His skills were sharpened further when he competed in the ASEAN Skills Competition in Singapore and the 2nd Asia Skills Competition in the UAE. To prepare for WorldSkills, Yu underwent two weeks of intense training
under the K-STAR capacity-building program, supported by the Human Resources Development Service of Korea and TESDA. The training focused on Python, Android programming, database management, and desktop programming. Under the guidance of ITSSB expert Mr. Edwardo G. Reyes, along with Mr. Junnel Fadrilan and Mr. Elvin Manuel Luces, Yu’s technical expertise was further honed.
This achievement goes beyond personal success for Yu — it also raises CCDI’s profile on an international level. His dedication and hard work serve as an inspiration for future students, positioning the school as a hub for IT talent. After his return from Lyon, he was awarded a Certificate of Commendation from the Local Government Unit of Sorsogon, a recognition that speaks to the pride of his community. As CCDI now turns its attention to preparing its next competitor for the 2025 ASEAN Skills Competition, Yu’s success serves as a benchmark and inspiration for what can be achieved with commitment and passion.
