With the theme “Ensuring Lifelong Learning through the Senior High School (SHS) Program,” the Sorsogon City Division held the 2018 Senior High School Summit last February 20, 2018 at Sorsogon National High School Covered Court.
The said summit aimed to strengthen the students’ appreciation of the K to 12 Curriculum, showcase their achievements in their field of interests and share SHS experiences. Public and Private Schools put up their own booths and showcased their outputs and some put up their bazaar and displayed their products.
The said activity started with the Introduction of Summit Objective and Mechanics given by Dr. Nympha Guemo, OIC-Schools Division Superintendent, followed by the opening messages from Dir. Ramon Fiel G. Abcede, Director IV, DepEd Region V, and Hon. Sally A. Lee, Sorsogon City Mayor. Next was the update of status and key issues and directions for trifocal agencies vis-à-vis SHS program implementation which was lead by Usec. Lorna Dig- Dino, Undersecretary for Curriculum and Instruction; Dr. Modesto Detera, President, Higher Education Institution Association (Sorsogon Chapter); Mr. Jose Serrano, TESDA-Sorsogon Director.
One of the events highlighted in the said program was the presentation of the invention of Boñga Integrated School, the Automatic Seismic Alarm System (Earthquake Alarm) presented by Mr. Roel Atutubo and Mrs. Jona Bayoca, Senior High School Teachers from the said school. The event also highlighted the creations of the Grade 12 Dressmaking Students from Sorsogon National High School in the form of an intermission number called the “Yamit” which was a fashion show.
Messages from Mr. Edgar C. Balasta, Chairman, Provincial Technical Education Devt. Council; Hon. Inigo Destacamento, City Councilor; Chairman Committee on Education; and Hon. Robert “Bobet” Rodrigueza, Governor, Province of Sorsogon, inspired SHS students that their knowledge and abilities will take them to their success in life and that K to 12 is a very good advantage in their education.
At exactly 11:30 in the morning, the Ribbon Cutting and the Formal Opening of Exhibits and Bazaar were held lead by Usec. Lorna Dig- Dino, Hon. Bobet Lee Rodrigueza, Dir. Ramon Fiel G. Abcede, Dr. Modesto Detera, Hon. Sally A. Lee, Dir. Jose Serrano, OIC-SDS Nympha Guemo, ASDS Cecile Ferro, Mr. Benjie Cadag, SHS Coordinator, and CID Chief and Staff.
Mr. Benjie Cadag, SHS Coordinator, delivered the Closing Message which ended the program.
Participants in the said activity were the Grade 12 SHS Students, SHS Teachers and School Heads from Public Schools, twelve SHS Students from Private Schools, HEIs and TEIs and SSC-Laboratory High School composed of ten Grade 12 Students, one SHS Teacher and the school administrator or principal. #BellezaL.
